Daniel Farke admits Norwich City’s gruelling start to the Championship is turning into a survival of the fittest.

The Canaries’ head coach must take a late roll call of his injury-hit squad before deciding who is equipped to go into battle at Millwall on Saturday.

Farke is weighing up whether Timm Klose and Nelson Oliveira can handle the Lions’ Den after not risking the duo for the morale-boosting midweek League Cup win over Charlton.

“It is always good for the self-confidence to win games for the guys, especially for the lads like Alex Tettey and Tom Trybull who had solid, first appearances,” said Farke. “Also Marley Watkins, who did a good pre-season but a little like Josh (Murphy) has had to struggle in the last few games and carrying an injury and playing with some pain.

“For sure, we try to take this self-confidence to Millwall but it will be a different game.

“Timm had to calm down his training a little bit (earlier in the week). He cannot be an option for the XI because he has been away six weeks but maybe a squad option. Marcel Franke got some pain in his muscle (against Charlton) so it would be a good option to have Timm at Millwall.

“We have to wait a little bit but I count on him after the international break. If we can get Nelson back in full training then you would want him involved because he is full of confidence.”

Compatriot Ivo Pinto played his first 90 minutes of the season against the Addicks in a timely boost to a backline that has leaked too many goals in the league.

“I spoke more with Ivo than my assistant coach in the second half against Charlton,” said Farke. “I was asking him was he okay and how he felt. He said always, ‘everything is okay boss’. It is important for him to get as many minutes for his fitness. We should have him back with 100pc after the international break.

“All the guys know to concede so many goals it is not possible to win games. We have to improve in this area.

“The problem is we have defended well in some games, like QPR and Fulham, but we have to be more consistent. It would be better to have some experienced options but right now we have to deal with this. We want a fresh, new start in the beginning and we are totally convinced that is the right way.”
