Mario Vrancic and Wes Hoolahan both picked up knocks during Norwich City’s 0-0 draw with Bristol City but head coach Daniel Farke hopes both will be fine to travel to Middlesbrough on Tuesday.

Vrancic was replaced by Hoolahan in the 71st minute and the substitute also landed awkwardly after coming on.

“Mario got a hit in the first half on his muscle and wasn’t able to run after 60 minutes, which was a little bit sad because he had a great game in the cup and is always able to create something special with a finishing pass or set-piece and he is able to score goals as well,” Farke explained.

“So another player we had to do without in the last 30 minutes but I hope it is just a hit and that he will be available for the Middlesbrough game in the middle of the week.

“Wes had some problems because he fell on his knees and he felt a lot of pain. I spoke with him and he said it was okay and better so hopefully it’s not too bad so he will be available for the Middlesbrough game but we will have to wait and see.”

The German also confirmed that his decision to start Harrison Reed ahead of Alex Tettey in midfield was with next week’s tough trips to Middlesbrough and Reading in mind.

“On the one hand we wanted to take a little bit more risks in this home game so we brought in Harrison Reed, who is a bit more of an offensive player than Alex Tettey,” the Canaries boss continued. “And the same with Marley Watkins, who is a little bit more of a striker than Yanic Wildschut.

“We got the feeling that we are in such a good shape defensively that we can bring more offensive players on the pitch and I think it was the right decision because we did not have too much problem in our defence.

“We have two pretty tough away games next week and with Alex we know it has been a lot of load and in technical terms I think I will need him more in the away games, for Middlesbrough and Reading too, and for that I think this was the right decision.”
