Daniel Farke’s mentor at Borussia Dortmund, Ingo Preuss, is tipping Norwich City’s new head coach to make it a hat-trick of promotions for the eight-time German champions’ coaching factory.

If Farke can take Norwich back to the Premier League, it would follow David Wagner’s Championship play-off success at Huddersfield and Hannes Wolf, who has just guided VFB Stuttgart back into the Bundesliga.

Wagner was Dortmund II’s head coach prior to Farke, while Wolf worked with Borussia Dortmund’s under-19s before joining Stuttgart last September, and the success of both men has led Dortmund II’s sporting director Preuss to believe Farke can make it a perfect three out of three next season.

“Daniel was excited about the move and I told him I have a lot of respect for the move he has made,” he said. “I saw quite a bit of the Championship when I was scouting for the first team last year, and I was impressed with the level. It’s a good league with a lot of power.

“It’s a different style of play from the Premier League, more physical and less technical.

“Hannes Wolf got Stuttgart promoted to the top league in Germany, Wagner has got Huddersfield to the Premier League and hopefully Daniel can make it the hat-trick next year.”

Preuss is also wishing Stuart Webber all the best in his new role as the Canaries’ sporting director, after plenty of German fact-finding missions.

“Stuart has visited Dortmund on a number of occasions and has watched matches from both the first team and the second team,” he said. “I think he likes the style of play and our football. I hope he is successful at Norwich because he did very good work at Huddersfield.”

Farke admitted when he was unveiled last week it was a wrench to leave Dortmund.

“It was not so easy because I had a real close relationship with all the guys, particularly my team, to Thomas Tuchel, Michael Zorc and Hans-Joachim Watzke,” he said. “They really appreciated my work a lot. We had different conversations about the future and it was not so easy to leave Dortmund but all in all a very easy decision to arrive in Norwich. It was a little time for change here in Norwich.”
