Three of Norwich City’s players were on target for their loan clubs this weekend, including a brace for young striker Tristan Abrahams.

Nelson Oliveira’s was the most important, scoring in a 2-1 win at Ipswich to help deal a significant blow to the survival hopes of City’s local rivals.

It was a big day for 20-year-old Abrahams though, scoring his first goal in League Two since the first day of the season, having left Exeter and joined Yeovil in January.

Two goals in four minutes from the Canaries forward, playing in a wide role, put the Glovers 2-1 up at home to Morecambe in a game which they eventually won 3-2 to move six points clear of the relegation zone.

“It’s a terrific feeling, I want to score goals, that’s a big part of my game and I’m happy I can finally bring it to the table,” said Abrahams.

“I’m very lucky the way they fell to me, I couldn’t ask for much more than that, being in the right place at the right time, I just had to put them in the back of the net.”

The former Leyton Orient man now has four goals in 28 games in all competitions so far this season, although 15 of those were from the bench for Exeter.

Speaking to BBC Bristol, he continued: “I’m here to play football and show what I can do, now I’ve got the opportunity and it’s going my way so I’m only delighted about that.

“It’s a new position that I haven’t played in before, it’s a learning curve but I’m enjoying it and playing well so I can’t really complain.”

Left-back James Husband scored his first goal in over five years when he found the net for Fleetwood in League One, curling a free-kick in from the edge of the area in the 90th minute to rescue a 1-1 draw at home to Gillingham.

“I was probably as surprised as anyone in the ground,” Fleetwood boss Joey Barton told the Blackpool Gazette. “When the lads have practised free-kicks, he hasn’t stayed out and done it with them. We showed great quality to pick up a point.

“He’s started it wide and used the Fylde coast conditions, with the wind howling. It was a free-kick worthy of winning a game and I’m delighted for Hubby to get his goal and keep our scoreboard ticking over.”

Elsewhere in the third tier, veteran winger Matt Jarvis played the full match as Walsall drew 0-0 at Burton to stay two points clear of the relegation zone.

Simon Power came on in the 81st minute of Dordrecht’s 2-2 home draw with NEC Nijmegen in the Dutch second tier on Friday night, with the Irish winger ideally placed to finish a rapid counter and fire his team 3-1 up in the 86th minute, only for a team-mate to mess up his pass – with the visitors equalising three minutes later.

While in the German second tier, defender Marcel Franke couldn’t prevent Darmstadt losing 1-0 at Arminia Bielefeld on Sunday, leaving them six points clear of relegation trouble.

While across the pond in the USA, left-back Caleb Richards played the full 90 minutes as Tampa Bay Rowdies completed their pre-season schedule with a 2-1 win over the University of South Florida Bulls on Saturday night.

The Rowdies begin their second-tier United Soccer League Championship Eastern Conference fixtures away to Mephis 901 on Saturday.
