Norwich City’s shock FA Cup exit at the hands of non-League Luton Town has left them with a blank weekend – but two of their playing squad still have a big interest in the competition.

Midfielder Tom Adeyemi and striker James Vaughan are preparing to face Premier League opposition on Sunday for their respective loan clubs.

Adeyemi will be in the Brentford squad as they prepare for their fourth round replay away to holders Chelsea, which has a noon kick-off, while Vaughan and Huddersfield Town play host to Wigan Athletic in a fifth round tie later the same afternoon.

The Bees earned the replay at Stamford Bridge with a 2-2 draw at Griffin Park in the first match and 21-year-old Adeyemi, who scored in their 2-0 League One home win over Stevenage on Tuesday night, said they had to take confidence from their first showing against the star-studded Blues.

“Chelsea are a great team but we showed in the game here that we can match them,” Adeyemi told Brentford’s official website.

“It will be difficult. We know we will be under more pressure with their fans but ours will travel in numbers.

“There is no reason we can’t get something out of the game. These are the games you want to look back on at the end of your career and remember.

“You want to enjoy it but it’s another game of football. We have to go there and try to get a result.

“We have to gain confidence from the first game. At the end we were disappointed with a draw.

“There is no reason we can’t reproduce that.”

Adeyemi won a penalty against Chelsea in the first match when he was brought down by goalkeeper Ross Turnbull and he had a key role again on Tuesday as victory over Stevenage kept Brentford in the promotion picture in sixth place in League One, after taking just seven points from the previous seven games.

Adeyemi, who has made 24 appearances for the Bees this season, scored just before half-time - his first Griffin Park goal - and Marcello Trotta added a second late on.

“It was a really important game,” said Adeyemi. “We have had a dip in results.

“We felt we were performing well but not getting the wins.”

He said of his goal: “I picked the ball up out wide, dribbled inside and hit it, luckily enough it went in. It’s my first goal here.

“It’s nice to celebrate in front of the fans. Maybe I can get a few more before the end of the season.

“You are more confident when you are feeling fit.

“I now feel when I am up against their midfield I can run over them, get in their faces when they have the ball and go past them when we have the ball.

“That feeling inspires confidence. It allows me to play at my best.”

Vaughan, meanwhile, played the final 20 minutes of Huddersfield’s 2-1 fourth round replay win at Leicester as a substitute for ex-Canary Alan Lee.

He will be hoping to add to his five goals for the Terriers when they face Wigan for a place in the quarter-finals.
