Norwich City have told Leeds they will need to hand over £5m if they want to sign midfielder Jonny Howson, according to reports.

The Canaries star has turned down the offer of a new deal at Carrow Road and is believed to want a return north. Howson, 29, joined City from Leeds in 2012 for around £2m and has been a key player ever since.

City are reluctantly ready to listen to offers for his services – and the Mirror claim the asking price is £5m.

Howson may welcome a return to the club where he made his breakthrough – and it’s likely his return would be popular among the Leeds fans. Howson has made 188 appearances for the Canaries, scoring 24 goals, and was player of the season in 2016.

And while his name is not on new sporting director Stuart Webber’s “out” list, the Canaries are currently undergoing a major transition and may well be happy to cash in on Howson without too much collateral damage being inflicted.
