Jonny Howson’s exit from Norwich City appears to be reaching the end game, with reports claiming the midfielder is having a medical on Friday with City’s Championship rivals Middlesbrough.
The 29-year-old has become Boro’s top target, with claims that, after an initial approach was rebuffed, they put in an improved offer much closer to City’s reported £5m valuation.
Respected football journalist Graeme Bailey is confident the Teessiders will push the deal through in the next 24 hours after north-east media had earlier reported Boro returned with an improved bid.
It’s left Boro confident they can land their man, who is keen to return to his native north of England, with The Sun claiming the medical has now been arranged.
City would be reluctant sellers: only this week new head coach Daniel Farke admitted he wanted to keep Howson at Carrow Road, but it looks increasingly likely that will not be the case.
