Former Norwich City goalkeeper John Ruddy is set to sign for Wolves in an emergency deal to cover for stricken Carl Ikeme.

Former Norwich City goalkeeper John Ruddy is set to sign for Wolves in an emergency deal to cover for stricken Carl Ikeme.

The Midlands outfit moved fast after Ikeme, veteran of more than 200 appearances for Wolves, was diagnosed with acute leukaemia.

Ruddy is available on a free after leaving Carrow Road at the end of last season.

The 30-year-old had been tipped for a move to Championship side Sunderland.

The Black Cats, relegated from the top flight last season, are in the market for a new keeper following the departure of Jordan Pickford to Everton for £30m.

And with just Vito Mannone and Mika as experienced keepers Ruddy would fit the bill to bolster the ranks.

Ruddy was one of the seven players who were allowed to leave Carrow Road at the end of the season, and has also been linked with moves to Steve Bruce’s Aston Villa and Premier League West Ham.
