French club Lyon are reportedly considering a £10million bid for Norwich City defender Ben Godfrey, after scouting the England Under-20 international recently.
National newspapers have linked Godfrey with Premier League sides Manchester United and Arsenal in recent months, as well as German club Red Bull Leipzig, but Football Insider have added Liverpool to the mix.
The website claim a source close to the 21-year-old has revealed that Lyon’s head of recruitment Florian Maurice has watched Godfrey’s last five games.
The same website have also reported today that the youngster is in line for a new contract at Norwich, as City try to fend off summer interest ahead of their likely return to the Premier League – with just one point needed to seal promotion during the final two games of the season.
Godfrey was signed from York in a deal reportedly worth £1m in January 2016 and spent last season on loan with Shrewsbury Town, playing a pivotal role as a defensive midfielder as the Shropshire side reached the League One play-off final.
The powerful Yorkshireman has been used as centre-back by Canaries boss Daniel Farke this season though, coming into the side as a regular in December and keeping his place ahead of experienced internationals Timm Klose and Grant Hanley.
The defender signed a new contract last summer, committing to City until 2022 with a deal signed during pre-season.

Godfrey has five goals to his name from 40 games in all competitions and his fierce attitude and obvious determination have made him a popular player among Canaries fans during the current promotion push.
If he retains his place in the England U20 squad he could be in action in France this June anyway, as the Young Lions are competing in the prestigious Toulon Tournament, trying to retain the title won last year – with Godfrey qualifying for the age criteria.

That may allow Lyon to take a closer look at their reported target, with the French side still chasing Champions League qualification, currently in third place in Ligue Un with five games remaining.
VERDICT: A new contract for any of City’s young stars would hardly be surprising this summer but with Godfrey, Max Aarons and Jamal Lewis already on long-term deals the Canaries are already in a strong position.
They will be able to offer regular game-time at Premier League level – as long as their expected promotion is confirmed – but of course every player has his price.
It’s likely it would take much more than the suggested £10m for them to consider allowing Godfrey to leave though.
