Our East Anglian derby player watch followed the fortunes of Norwich City’s veteran playmaker Wes Hoolahan during this afternoon’s 1-0 win at Ipswich Town.
It was Hoolahan’s 10th derby, having joined in 2008 and been part of five wins and four draws previously, scoring in the 4-1 win at Carrow Road in November 2010 and the 3-1 home play-off success in 2015. Here’s how his latest derby success played out...
4 – Nice exchanges with James Maddison and Harrison Reed but eventually falls over the ball on the edge of the box under pressure.
9 – Closes down Jonas Knudsen and wins a throw on the left.
You may also want to watch:
13 – Lovely one-two with Maddison in the Ipswich half, spreads to Marco Stiepermann in acres of space, he cuts inside and fires a poor shot well wide.
17 – Vital tracking back to block David McGoldrick as he is through against Ivo Pinto and about to shoot.

21 – Maddison pulls back a low cross from the left and Luke Chambers blocks Hoolahan’s shot, Yanic Wildschut follows up and Bartosz Bialkowski holds at the second attempt.
31 – Tracks back and fouls Joe Garner on midway with a clumsy tackle.
33 – Aimless ball into the box from a Stiepermann throw on the left is easily cleared.
39 – Tristan Nydam goes down easily under pressure from Hoolahan to the left of the box and the referee gives the foul. Martyn Waghorn swings in and McGoldrick heads over when he should score. A let off.
41 – Lovely control midway in the Ipswich half after Maddison does well to win possession, spins away from Cole Skuse and Nydam, lifts ball over the defence but Cameron Jerome can’t reach.
46 – Keeps the ball away from McGoldrick in the box, dodgy pass back to Angus Gunn but keeper clears under pressure from Waghorn.
50 – Wildschut is tackled on the edge of the box, Hoolahan picks up and spreads wide to Maddison but chance is wasted.
52 – Lovely control to keep ball and win corner, plays short to Maddison and he is fouled by Waghorn. Maddison takes, cleared as far as Hoolahan, wonderful through-ball back to Maddison but runs the ball out of play.
58 – Plays Jerome into the right channel but striker snatches at his chance.
59 – Spreads ball to the left to Wildschut, beginning the move which leads to Maddison opening the scoring.
67 – Lovely one-two with Reed and Pinto is bundled over but no foul is given.
78 – Replaced by James Husband
Verdict: Hard working and started the move which led to Maddison scoring. Not exactly vintage Wes, the 35-year-old’s legs are starting to slow a tad, but still an important part of this team effort.
