Offers are coming in thick and fast for the services of Darren Huckerby, according to his agent Phil Smith.

With the dust still settling following the news of his rejection by Norwich boss Glenn Roeder, the City legend is already sifting through potential suitors for the start of next season - a galling situation for many Canary fans who feel Huckerby had plenty yet to offer in yellow and green.

The Canaries' talisman was told by Roeder on Tuesday he would not be offered a new deal at Carrow Road once his contract expires at the end of June, leaving the 32-year-old free to move on to any club he chooses.

And Smith confirmed some offers have been on the table for weeks and, with his future at Norwich officially extinguished, he can finally sit down with his player and sort out their next move.

“There are options but I'm not going to go into them,” said Smith, who did not confirm he was ruling out offers from English clubs. “Not necessarily. It is too early to tell where Darren is going to go. A couple of clubs expressed an interest a few weeks ago and we expect a few more to come out now, but Darren wanted the Norwich situation to unfold naturally and he wanted to commit himself for the rest of the season.”

But Smith refused to criticise the club for the way Huckerby's departure had been handled, with the lack of a fitting goodbye something which clearly rankled City fans.

“They have got to do what they have got to do, what any business has to do, and look after themselves,” added Smith. “Lots of other players are in Darren's plight and others are not in as good a position as his. But there is no animosity with the club or how this was dealt with. I haven't got a problem with them.

“If Norwich were to have gone down to League One, they would have had to budget for it. Now they know they're in the Championship, they have to budget for that.

“Now he can hold his head up high and know that there was no reason for him to go other than them not offering a contract to him.

“I haven't spoken to anyone at the club, no one has contacted me and Darren was adamant he wanted to let it play out naturally.”

Sunderland were linked with Huckerby a couple of weeks ago and sources in the North East confirmed Roy Keane may be tempted to add the winger to his Premier League squad, where he would join former City midfielder Dickson Etuhu at the Stadium of Light.

Other reunions to have been touted include a move to Scotland to join his former Coventry boss Gordon Strachan at Celtic, while Huckerby's old Carrow Road team-mates Carl Robinson and Jim Brennan currently ply their trade at MLS side Toronto.

Huckerby had previously stated he would not move to another English club if he left the Canaries.
