Former Norwich City striker Nelson Oliveira could be offered a route back into the English game courtesy of Wolverhampton Wanderers.

The Portuguese striker has been linked with the Midlands club following his impressive form for AEK Athens in the Greek top-flight, and is said to have a release clause of €6.5m. Reports in Greece suggest Oliveira would get 10pc of any deal.

Wolves are reportedly interested in signing the ex-City forward as back-up for star striker Raul Jimenez as Patrick Cutrone joined Fiorentina on loan earlier this month. Jorge Mendes represents Oliveira and helped the club attract 12 players within six weeks during the 2016 summer transfer window, including midfielder Ruben Neves.

The report suggests AEK are aware of the interest but, as of yet, Wolves haven't submitted a bid for the striker. Oliveira has only played 10 times in the top-flight during a loan spell with Swansea City in 2014/15, where he netted once in a 3-2 victory over Newcastle United.

Oliveira has scored nine goals in 15 games since joining the Greek giants from City last summer. The striker found himself drastically out of favour and proved to be a controversial figure in Norfolk after his public dispute with boss Daniel Farke in the German's first game in charge at Fulham.

During that season, he netted a last-gasp equaliser for City against Wolves in the Championship, as he shot optimistically from 35 yards before seeing ex-City keeper John Ruddy fumble his effort into the net.

Despite featuring 37 times in the Championship that season, the striker's relationship with Farke seemingly deteriorated to the extent that he was sent out on loan to Reading in the second half of last season.

Speaking about his previous struggles in England with the Canaries, Oliveira said: "My time in England helped to grow me a lot, both as a player and a person. I have never been a fan, as everyone knows, of life in England," he told Esporte ao Minuto in December.

"It is no secret. For us Portuguese it is not an easy country to adapt to. Here in Greece it's easier; there's the beach, the good food, the good temperature and the sun."
