As far as bookings go, Onel Hernandez was more than happy to take it in celebrating his Norwich City winner at Middlesbrough.

The winger’s excellent 54th minute strike made it seven successive wins since City’s February defeat at Preston – an emphatic response at a crucial time in the season, that has sent City seven points clear of third at the Championship summit.

Hernandez buried himself in the front row of about 1,500 travelling City fans at the Riverside Stadium, before referee David Coote booked the winger for leaving the field of play to celebrate.

But City’s Cuban star was only worried about recalling his latest chapter of magic in a yellow shirt.

“I’ve never had this – in Germany I never had this situation, especially when I scored the goal and afterwards,” beamed the likeable forward.

“I know it’s a yellow card but to celebrate with the fans like that, it’s such amazing feeling. I never had that before my life and I’m so happy for this, and I like a lot.”

Hernandez smiled and added: “The card? Yeah, whatever. I’ll take it. It’s OK.

“It was a really important goal and I am so happy I can help my team-mates to score. We all worked so much here and it is so important. I love this team it is crazy, unbelievable.

“I think it was a very good goal from me, especially when I cut in and strike the ball – it was an important goal and I liked it a lot.

“It was a good one for my collection.”
