City Reserves' recent upturn in fortunes in the Barclays Premiership Reserve league South continued at Carrow Road last night with a 2-1 win over West Ham.

However, the visitors could count themselves unlucky to come away from the game empty-handed with the Canaries' winner coming off a visiting defender for an own goal.

Keith Webb had the luxury of naming a strong side that included Zeshan Rehman, who was making his first start for the reserves.

West Ham almost opened the scoring inside the first 10 minutes when David Cowley sent in a curling shot that came back off a post, with City keeper Joe Lewis left rooted to the spot.

Shortly afterwards Lewis was on hand to tip a James Tomkins header over the bar, while at the other end Ryan Jarvis saw a volley from the edge of the box also turned over.

With 25 minutes on the clock the Hammers opened the scoring when the lively Ishmael Welsh beat Lewis with a shot from just 12 yards.

Neither side threatened to add to the scoreline for the remainder of the half, but just five minutes after the break City found themselves back on level terms.

The move leading to the goal saw Ryan Jarvis feed the ball in from the right to pick out substitute Robert Eagle and it seemed that his touch had levelled the scores. Somehow, though, the Hammers' defence cleared the ball off the line, only for Dickson Etuhu to send in a header that was also scrambled off the line, but it was Eagle who was to have the last say when he sent in an unstoppable shot from 25 yards.

Ryan Jarvis was later denied by the legs of Jimmy Walker in the visitors' goal but on 62 minutes he was instrumental in City's winning goal. He once again cut in from the right flank and when Walker could only block his shot there was Danny Blewitt to knock the ball into his own net.

City then had few problems in holding on for what was only their fourth win of the season.
