Our Norwich City correspondent Paddy Davitt has posted his marks following the Canaries’ 4-2 defeat at Villa Park.
Norwich City never really looked like ending a winless run at Villa Park that dates back to 1992. Here is Paddy’s verdict on Daniel Farke’s troops.
• Angus Gunn
Shipped fourth but prevented a much heavier first half deficit. Denied Keinan Davis twice before the hosts scored. 7.5
• Russell Martin
You may also want to watch:
Collective responsibility for that shambolic first half. Failed to sense Conor Hourihane’s presence in the vicinity for the opening goal. 5.5
• Christoph Zimmermann

Torrid afternoon trying and failing to deal with the all-action Davis. The deflection to send Hourihane’s shot spiralling over Gunn summed it up. 5.0
• Marcel Franke
Indecision proved costly on Villa’s second. Albeit the finish was sublime from Andre Green. 5.5
• James Husband
One fine far post diving block early on. Routinely getting over-run. Which highlights the lack of support from City’s midfield. 5.5
• Harrison Reed
Mixed, to put it mildly. Cheap turnover sparked the first Villa goal. Fine spot for Josh Murphy to pull one back. Inconsistency of youth. 6.5
• Marco Stiepermann
Leeway required for a full debutant. Plenty of desire to cut in and look for work centrally but offered little in a creative sense. 6.5
• Mario Vrancic
When City are on the back foot, Vrancic is largely anonymous. No time, space or decent ball possession to showcase his creativity. 6.0
• Steven Naismith
Plenty of early aggression and a willingness to close down but any real influence waned dramatically as Villa took control. 6.0
• Josh Murphy
Many want to see more end product from an exciting talent. Here he delivered with one goal and one assist. 7.5
• Cameron Jerome
Sadly one of those shifts where he lacked any real conviction in front of goal. Typified by a miscued glancing header from close range. 5.5
• City substitutes
• Wes Hoolahan 6.0
Game was too frayed around the edges by the time he was introduced to exert any real control.
(for Steven Naismith, 73)
• Nelson Oliveira 7.0
Injury doubt pre-match. Still on the scoresheet. Three and counting.
(for Cameron Jerome, 74)
• Yanic Wildschut n/a
(for James Husband, 86)
