Plymouth boss Peter Reid plans to keep Norwich City midfielder Owain Tudur Jones for a week before deciding whether to try to add him to his squad.

The Wales international scored for the Pilgrims in an 8-0 victory over Saltash United on Monday night.

The Canaries announced the 25-year-old was in talks over a possible loan deal, but Reid described him as being on trial at Home Park.

Reid said: “He cruised through the game and looked a decent player. We are going to have a look at him for a week or so.”

Tudur Jones , pictured left, is at Plymouth on the recommendation of former Liverpool and Wales striker Ian Rush. American defender Laurent Manuel and Birmingham City's Irish goalkeeper Colin Doyle are also on trial and Manuel was included in the club's official photo call yesterday.

Reid confirmed Tudur Jones' arrival owed much to his Welsh compatriot.

“Ian Rush, who I know well, had a word with me about him and recommended him,” said Reid. “So we're having a look at him to see if he likes us and we like him. I thought he did all right. We're having a look at Laurent, too. He's been injured but he was very determined.

“I'm just trying to balance the squad. It's difficult to say who I'm going to take on.”
