The first team of Plymouth Argyle await Norwich City Under-21s in the EFL Trophy group stages this evening.

City’s development squad take on the Pilgrims, who were promoted automatically from League Two last season, in their opening game in Southern Group F (7.30pm).

Trips to League Two sides Newport County and Cheltenham Town await in October and November respectively. The Canaries youngsters lost 2-0 to Portsmouth, beat Ipswich U23s 2-1 and King’s Lynn Town 1-0 during pre-season ahead of the game at Home Park.

U23s coach David Wright, speaking to City’s website, said: “It’s going to be a really tough game, Plymouth got promoted last year, I think third place behind Swindon. It’s going to be a really tough test going there. We know what we’re up against.

“As I said to the players, I’m interested in the process. If we get the process right, which we did in the second half (against King’s Lynn), then the result will take care of itself.”
