Matt Gill wasted no time in making his choice of options as the wintry weather continued to strangle this afternoon's fixture list.

“I think it's only us and Leeds on at the moment - it's a pity Leeds are playing,” said the City midfielder. “I think points on the board is more important than games in hand.”

A win for City would open a three-point lead over Charlton, whose home game against Hartlepool is off, and a six-point gap to fourth-placed Colchester, who were due to travel to Yeovil. Leeds are at home to Wycombe, and will be raging favourites to win and maintain the eight-point gap over the Canaries.

City are equally well-favoured, and although Gill is likely to be watching from the subs' bench, there is no feeling of frustration that he won't be facing his former team-mates as he inches his way back to full match fitness after a calf injury.

“It's just mainly been trying to get fit again,” said Gill. “Obviously I had another setback at Stockport, but recently I've been back and I was pleased to be involved on Boxing Day.

“The lads have been in great form and the longer we can continue that the better for Norwich City Football Club, so let's just hope we can continue that. I'm not frustrated as such - it is not about me, it is about the football club doing well.

“So the harder it is for me to get in the team that means the better the lads are doing which is great for the football club.

“I'll try as hard as I can to get into that team and, hopefully, stay in it if I get a chance. But the most important thing is for Norwich to be winning games and staying at the top of that league
