On Premier League days when Norwich City lack cohesion or any semblance of sustained attacking threat it is easy to see why Robert Snodgrass is such a serial winner of personal accolades.

The Scotland international collected his latest player-of-the-month award prior to kick off against the Cottagers. One of his most endearing attributes is even when City toil, even when the quality quotient falls short, Snodgrass plays with an energy and an effervescence that endears him to fans. The set piece goals may have dried up for now but he continues to be the most productive supplier of chances with his willingness just to take the game to the opposition.

The work rate was again prodigious. Less than a minute gone and he had already made the first of numerous forays forward before curling a cross beyond the far post. Four minutes from normal time and he was still attempting to make things happen – albeit the tame header at Mark Schwarzer was another one for the back catalogue of saved efforts this season.

His surge in the 45th minute typfied his day. Driving over halfway on a counter to link with Wes Hoolahan before fashioning a cross Luciano Becchio headed wide under pressure from Brede Hangeland. Hoolahan was similarly committed to trying to alter the flow. Bradley Johnson was a marauding presence, but Snodgrass looked the most likely to spark City from their stupor.
