Derby day can create legends but Norwich City’s prime candidate to join that elite club is facing a battle for fitness.

Iwan Roberts, Leon McKenzie and Grant Holt have all fired the Canaries to glory against Ipswich before – and Nelson Oliveira looks primed to follow in their footsteps.

The Portuguese striker – who missed both of last season’s derby draws – has been struggling with a groin injury but came off the bench to salvage a dramatic injury-time equaliser against Hull for City at the weekend.

Supporters are now keeping their fingers crossed that a week of training will allow the talented striker to start at Portman Road on Sunday and try to add to the five goals he has scored this season.

We asked fans in an online poll just how important is it that the 26-year-old starts and just short of 50pc feel Oliveira’s goal threat is needed. Not everyone feels his presence is essential to City’s chances though, with 28pc saying a place among the substitutes is sufficient and 23pc backing Cameron Jerome to cope if Oliveira’s injury is still a risk.
