King's Lynn player/boss Carl Heggs is poised to unleash Peterborough loan striker Kwesi Appiah on Nantwich in today's Unibond Premier Division tussle at The Walks. (3pm)

Appiah agreed an initial one month switch from the Championship outfit yesterday after Heggs was forced into the loan market again following Mansfield frontman Jason Bradley's recent ankle injury.

Posh boss Darren Ferguson signed Appiah from Conference National Ebbsfleet in October 2008 but the 19-year-old has yet to make his senior breakthrough.

The London Road prospect was on the bench for United's 5-2 second string win over Norwich City this month.

“Peterborough aren't going to sign players from the Conference if you they don't see you as a future first teamer,” said Heggs. “He's a powerful lad with loads of ability, good feet, and he can score goals. He's played two levels higher for Ebbsfleet and Weymouth and we're lucky to get him to a Unibond club.

“I expect him to be quite a handful. He's hungry and he's at an age where he will have something to prove to his club. Darren Ferguson and David Oldfield at Peterborough have told him this is a great place to come for a month and score some goals. He'll train with us and his club, just the same as Lathanial (Rowe-Turner) does with Leicester. These are full time professionals and great additions to the squad. What I'm really trying to do now is ensure that every player I bring in adds extra quality.”

New Hednesford midfield recruit Carl Palmer is also in line for a debut following Callum Lloyd's foot injury picked up in the midweek Hucknall league win.

“Someone trod on him as he's gone for a header in the first half but he preserved until 20 minutes to go when he said he just couldn't run any more,” said Heggs. “It's a shame for the lad because I think in the last few games after getting rid of a few players he realised I want him to be a part of the club this season and he'd settled down a bit.

“Callum and Joe Magunda have been smashing but I feel we need an old head and Palm's is perfect. We've drawn a few games that I think with a bit more experience we might have nicked with more ruthlessness.

“At Retford we take a corner in the 88th minute and whack it to the keeper. He clears it and we concede an equaliser from the goal kick. At times we've been guilty of our own enthusiasm but Palm's knows what it's all about. He's only 30, were not talking about someone who is 36, 37, so his best years are still ahead.”

Heggs opened his account for the club in the 3-0 success over Hucknall but the Linnets' chief may settle for a watching brief against Nantwich.

“My son has been off school with flu these last few days and I think I'm starting to get it,” he said. “I don't normally get the flu but running myself into the ground on Tuesday has left my immune system a bit low. It's not just the playing but all the aggro with these injuries and ringing round trying to get new players in.

“I had 3,000 minutes on my phone this month and I've gone 27 minutes over. I haven't decided if I'll play or not. Nantwich by all accounts have a dominant centre half who holds the side together so I might be an option but they'll be another decent team. This league is so evenly matched and, like Hucknall showed, teams will have a spell on top. You have to weather that and then you're in control of games make sure you nick a goal or two.”
