Idah vows to keep working hard for his chances at City – as FA Cup opportunity beckons

The Republic of Ireland Under-21 international has been prolific at youth levels in recent seasons and played all of a disappointing 1-0 loss away to League Two side Crawley in the League Cup second round in August.

He had to wait until New Year's Day for his Premier League though, playing the final few minutes of a 1-1 draw with Crystal Palace.

"I was delighted to get on the pitch," the 18-year-old said. "To make a small impact when I came on was great for me. Now, it's time to keep my head down and try to get a few more minutes.

"I want to work hard and if I get the chance, I'll take it. If not, I'll keep working hard."

The youngster looked set for a loan move in January, with League One side Doncaster Rovers a possible destination, but with Teemu Pukki (toe and hamstring), Dennis Srbeny (back) and Josip Drmic (hamstring) all injured hs is set to start against Championship opposition.

On his top-flight debut, he continued: "I'm delighted because I've been dreaming of this moment since I was a young boy. I'm very honoured and happy to make my debut.

"I found out on Tuesday after training that I'd be involved and I was delighted, so I went home and rang my family straight away. They watched the game so I'm buzzing."

Idah was signed from College Corinthians in 2017 and signed a new contract until 2023 last summer. He has been part of the first team squad since pre-season but has had to wait patiently.

"It's been great working with Daniel," he added, speaking to City's website. "Everyone knows he trusts young players like Max Aarons, Todd Cantwell, Jamal Lewis and Ben Godfrey, so for me to work under him is unbelievable. I knew he trusted me to bring me on, so I'm grateful to have him as my manager.

"Watching the other young lads go from academy football into the first team gives you that belief and hope that you can do the same thing and follow their paths. It's great to play with them."
