Rangers fight back to reach the semis

Wymondham Rangers gained revenge on Norfolk Sunday Senior Cup finalists Marlborough as they came from 3-1 down to win 5-3 after extra-time in the League Cup quarter-finals.

The South Norfolk side now face another tough trip to the other Senior Cup finalists Dog House, who beat Prince of Denmark 5-0. Acle Rangers won 5-1 at Costessey Sports and will now be at home to Reepham Town who thumped Eaton FC 8-1. The semi-finals are scheduled to be played on April 10.

In the Premier Division, leaders The Grove are making sure that they have the points on the board, whilst their challengers with games in hand play catch up. Two goals by Paul Atkins plus others from Aaron Nixon and Gary Bee gave them a 4-0 win at AFC Wanderers. Matt Elwin scored five times as Poringland Wanderers hammered 11 past a luckless Norman Wanderers. Scott Casey, Jack Tarrant, Ryan Petit, Jonny Causton, Shaun Cann and Dale Simpson also found the net.

Hellesdon closed the gap on Reepham Town, at the top of Division 1A after returning from North Walsham with a 7-3 victory, whilst Hainford YCOB stay third after a 2-0 (Mark Critten 2) win at Aslacton. Windmill Wanderers were disappointed after a 5-0 home defeat against Horsford SC whilst the game between Rackheath Green Man and Fiveways was goalless.

After losing at Unicorns last week Division 1B leaders Aylsham Sunday were held to a 2-2 draw in the return game. They do however stay five points clear at the top from Earlham United who moved up to second spot after a 3-0 (Damon Brown 2, Marcus Gee) home win over Haig FC. In the division’s other game, Norfolk CCSC had a 6-0 (Ben Morgan 2, Thomas Norman 2, Craig Press and Kevin Hoy) win over Sprowston Wanderers. Hoy’s goal, a penalty, made him the oldest player ever to score for the club.

Division 2A leaders The Castlegate were held to a 1-1 draw by fourth-placed Upton and are now just a point clear of Dussingdale Rovers who came from 2-0 down to win 3-2 at River Garden, Matthew Watson and Declan Crisp scoring for the home side. Nick Weavers scored twice and Lloyd Douglas hit a screamer as DCS Rapid beat Stoke 4-3. Adam Kobyleck also scored for DCS whilst Justin Cameron 2 and an own goal were the Stoke scorers.

Well done to Rose Tavern. A single Oliver Bennison goal in their victory over Spixworth was enough to ensure that they will at least finish runners up in Division 2B. The only team that can catch them, Bayer FC, had a 3-0 win at Sporting Farmhouse, but there was a surprise 3-0 defeat for PL Rangers at Wymondham Rangers Reserves. Acle Rangers scored the only goal of the game at Ribs Rovers, whilst goals by Danny Webster, David Gilfillan, Simon Curtis and Jonny Aldis helped to get Poringland Reserves off the bottom as they won 4-1 at Taverham United.
