Kirkley and Pakefield have revealed that they are undertaking a review of senior players contracts after concluding that the present costs are not sustainable.
In a statement the Ridgeons Premier club said that the action was driven by the “reality that local sponsors have had to make cut backs at this time of austerity and this income is down by over 50pc. Put simply there are insufficient funds to maintain our current trading situation.”
All players have been offered new remuneration arrangements but will be free to go if they do not accept the fresh terms.
The statement added that the club hope the players will understand and “stay to play for their local club.”
The club insists they are not in any financial difficulty, saying “this action is to ensure that it stays that way.”
