Renton scored his first on 24 minutes after good work from Luke Daley on the wing.
His second came after 74 minutes, with Daley again creating the opportunity down the right. His low cross was missed by the visitors' defence, allowing Renton to smash the ball past Watford 'keeper Jonathon North.
City were good value for the win, with Damon Lathrope and Daley close to adding to the Canaries' tally.
It was not all one way traffic however, and keeper Declan Rudd had to be sharp to make a save from Billy Gibson with the score still 1-0.
