Needham Market became the new Ridgeons Premier Division leaders after comfortably beating Mildenhall Town 5-1 at Bloomfields on Saturday.

The scoreline was arguably harsh on visiting Mildenhall, who competed well for large spells of the game but couldn't produce the composure in front of goal their hosts displayed.

The away side, who looked nervy in the opening exchanges, began to play some decent football and went agonisingly close to taking the lead with eight minutes gone.

Foster's corner was cleared as far as Sands who instantly volleyed past goalkeeper Liam Jones, but winger Evans got back on the goal line to head clear.

But Harrop headed his first goal for the club since his summer move from Stanway Rovers to open the scoring. Parker later turned the ball home from close range for the second before Mildenhall's Barrett saw his effort crash against a post.

Phillips scored from close range, Foster's free-kick was netted by a Werthman header then Phillips fired home and the scoring was completed when Thrower chipped the ball home for number five.

Histon Reserves move three places up the table after being 1-0 home victors over Dereham Town, who had been one place below them in the table before the game.

Debenham came away from the game at Stanway Rovers 2-1 winners, while Leiston got four goals without reply against visitors King's Lynn Reserves.

Lynn always find Leiston a difficult opponent and their cause was not helped on Saturday by conceding two penalties, both of which were converted. To cap a miserable afternoon, Nelson Moreira was dismissed late on in the game and will now be suspended.

Other Premier Division teams were involved in the FA Vase on Saturday.

Meanwhile, in the First Division Great Yarmouth visited Swaffham Town and returned with three points after a 2-1 win. There was a cautious start for both sides with Yarmouth showing the more ambition in a fairly uneventful first half. The visitors took the lead in the 54th minute, leaving Lee Brookes with no chance in a two-on-one attack. The scores levelled eight minutes later when Gavin Norman scored from the penalty spot following Andrew Hunter being pulled down in the box.

Matthew Kenny came on for Swaffham in the 70th minute with plans to change the dynamics of the game, but Yarmouth notched a second, and it could have been three but keeper Brookes came to Swaffham's rescue.

Cornard United played hosts to Godmanchester Rovers and pocketed all the points with a 1-0 win. FC Clacton got a nap hand at Downham, who scored just one back. Other First Division sides were in FA Vase ties.
