NORWICH City are interested in signing Scotland international Derek Riordan - according to the player's agent.

It was reported earlier this month that manager Peter Grant is keeping tabs on the Celtic player and while Riordan's agent, Jim McArthur, did not suggest the player is looking for a move, he admitted he was aware of the interest in his client.

The 23-year-old has struggled since moving to the Glasgow giants from Hibernian in the summer and McArthur said the picture surrounding the player's future will become clearer at the end of December.

“I know that Peter Grant has expressed an interest in the player previously but the situation as it stands is that he has got three years left on his contract at Celtic Park,” said McArthur.

“He is not starting at the moment but plenty can happen between now and January. We will know more come the end of December.”

Riordan moved to Gordon Strachan's side after plundering 36 goals for Hibs over the past two seasons but has found his route to the first team blocked by the likes of Holland international Jan Venegoor of Hesselink and Kenny Miller.

It is thought that a fee of around £400,000 would be enough to tempt Celtic to do business for a player they signed on a free transfer in the summer.

Grant said earlier this month that he is monitoring the player's situation. “I like him and I'd definitely be interested if Celtic said he was available.

“I have not made official contact with Gordon Strachan but I really liked him at Hibs and came up to watch him when Tony Mowbray was in charge at Easter Road.”

Meanwhile, the Canaries have also been linked with Riordan's former team mate at Hibernian, Ivan Sproule.

The Northern Ireland international has scored seven goals for the Edinburgh side this season and is reportedly a £450,000 target for Grant.

The 25-year-old winger shot to fame last season when he came on as a substitute for the Edinburgh side against Rangers before scoring a brilliant hat-trick in a 3-0 win. He was also part of the Northern Ireland side that beat England 1-0 in a World Cup qualifier.

Although primarily a wide player, Sproule can also play up front, and could be a valuable addition to City's current stretched squad.

City club officials chose not to comment on the speculation.
