Carl Robinson describes City new-boy Rob Earnshaw very simply. Meet Mr Goals.

“Rob just scores goal - he's just a fantastic finisher,” said Robinson, providing a familiar face for Norwich's potential record signing as the two Welsh international pals met up again at the Madejski Stadium on Tuesday night.

For Earnshaw and Robinson were in the same Wales squad that lost 1-0 to England in last autumn's crucial World Cup qualifier at the Millennium Stadium; the two were in the same Wales team that lost 1-0 to Cyprus last November in a forgettable friendly trip to Limassol.

More than enough for Robinson to know exactly what Earnshaw is all about; he has, you suspect, been there or thereabouts for most of Earnshaw's nine goals in his 23 international appearances. The fact that he also grabbed 14 goals in the season that the Baggies beat Norwich City to the drop and helped preserve West Bromwich Albion's prized Premiership status was also noted.

“For me, Rob's record speaks for itself. To finish top scorer for West Brom in their first season back up when they struggled shows what a great player he is.

“In terms of chances created, chances taken he's top class. He's just a natural finisher.”

As City fans are desperately hoping to discover for themselves in Sunday's derby fixture when their latest star turn will make his Norwich debut complete with Dean Ashton's 'No 10' shirt on his back.

“Rob's not very big, but he's very, very quick,” said Robinson, with Earnshaw's whole style and build about to prove a stark contrast to the now-departed £7.25 million man.

The do, however, share one thing in common - good, dressing room boys.

“Earnie's a great lad,” confirmed Robinson, hopeful of making his own comeback after his recent rib and lung worries.

“He's one of those that works hard for the team and is always looking to improve. And he's certainly come to the right place to learn more about the game.

“I'm just the delighted that he's here. It's a great move.”
