Roeder linked with a move to Leicester

Canaries boss Glenn Roeder has been linked with a move away from Carrow Road - to the team which ended City's 13-match unbeaten run on Saturday.

The Sunday People yesterday claimed that Leicester City owner Milan Mandaric was lining up Roeder to replace Ian Holloway - who masterminded a 4-0 win for the Foxes at the weekend.

Holloway is Mandaric's fourth appointment in his 12 months at the helm and launched a staunch defence of his position during his post-match press conference on Saturday.

Speculation has been rife that Mandaric, who sacked Martin Allen last August and then lost Gary Megson to Bolton just two months later, is looking to replace Holloway, but this is the first time that Roeder has been linked with the job.

Roeder, whose Canaries contract runs until 2010, has taken the Canaries from four points adrift at the bottom of the Championship at the end of October to the relative safety of 13th position after a 13-match unbeaten run.

And it's that record which appears to make Roeder a wanted man.

The People suggested that Mandaric had wanted Roeder as his director of football last autumn, but that the former West Ham and Newcastle boss preferred management and chose Norwich.

And they claim that the interest is still there, with former West Ham chief executive Paul Aldridge now at Leicester.

Not content with linking City's saviour with Leicester, they also says the 52-year-old is a contender for the vacancy at Coventry, who sacked Iain Dowie last week - the link clearly being the fact that Roeder is a former team-mate of Sky Blues owner Ray Ranson at Newcastle.

Dowie is lined up for a return to his old club Southampton after Stoke boss Tony Pulis ruled out replacing George Burley who left for Scotland.

Meanwhile, the News of the World claims Norwich and West Brom have targeted Burnley midfielder Wade Elliott as a summer signing, even though the player is still thinking over the offer of a new deal at Turf Moor.
