Ryan Jarvis signs contract extension

CITY striker Ryan Jarvis has signed a new two-year contract with the Canaries, tying him to Carrow Road until 2008, according to the club's official website.

The Fakenham-born player's current deal was due to expire this summer.

But the Canaries have moved to secure the services of the Academy product for another two seasons, giving the player the chance to put his injury-plagued campaign behind him.

Jarvis, whose younger brother Rossi signed professional for Norwich earlier this season, said he was delighted to secure his short-term future at the Club.

"I'm very pleased," he told CanariesWorld. "I had come to the end of my contract and wondered where my future lay so to get two more years at the Club I love is tremendous.

"This season has been a nightmare as I've been injured most of the time so I've been very low.

"I'm pleased to get two more years and I can't wait to start afresh next season."

Jarvis has scored three goals in three starts and 18 substitute appearances for City since becoming the youngest ever player to make his debut at just 16 years and 282 days back in April 2003.

This season his chances of first team football have been hindered by a persistent knee injury.

But the striker is now fully fit again and said he was hoping to play some sort of part in what was left of the season.

"Every time I travel with the squad I hope to be part of it," he said, adding a first team appearance alongside his brother would be the icing on the cake.

"It would be nice," he said. "People have been saying it would be great if we could play alongside each other.

"If it happens, it happens. If it doesn't, it doesn't. But if it does it would be nice."

City boss Nigel Worthington said: "Ryan has a difficult period over the last 12 months with injury, but we all know what potential he's got.

"This two-year contract extension offers him the chance to go and show what he's capable of and works towards a regular place in the starting eleven."
