The 24-year-old signed a deal today which keeps him at Carrow Road until 2010.
Shackell made his City debut in 2003 against Derby having graduated from the club's Academy set-up.
He has made 94 appearances for City, although he has missed the last three games after being sent off at Wolves 11 days ago.
