Former Norwich City defender Jason Shackell has been released by Lincoln City.

The 36-year-old is one of 11 players leaving the League One club.

Shackell began his career at Norwich, having come through the youth ranks, and started 112 league games for the Canaries between March 2003 and September 2008 when he joined Wolves. He made a brief return on loan in early 2009 under Bryan Gunn, but left Molineux for Barnsley in the summer of 2010. He went on to play for Derby, twice, and Burnley and joined Lincoln on a free transfer in the summer of 2018. He helped the Imps win promotion to League One and registered 29 appearances this season. In total, Shackell played in 69 games for Lincoln, scoring seven goals.

In a statement on their website, Lincoln said: “Due to the unprecedented situation we find ourselves in, it has made making any positive decisions around out of contract players impossible at this time. The club would like to express our sincere thanks to all those players who will leave us in the coming weeks and wish them a successful future.”
