King's Lynn boss Tommy Taylor insists the Southern League Premier Division show must go on at Chippenham following the departure of striker Danny Bloomfield.

Lynn's 16-goal top scorer completed his move to Nationwide South outfit Histon on Thursday, but Taylor denies the predator's untimely exit could cause lasting damage.

“Inside the dressing room there's no problem,” he insisted. “The lads are always kept informed by me if something is going on that could affect them. We've got experienced players who have been in similar situations and they knew what was happening.

“I don't want to lose any good footballers but the board had to do what it felt was right. Danny wanted to speak to clubs showing an interest and you can't blame him for that. I haven't got a bad word to say about him.

“Since Histon came in before Christmas it has been a very unsettling time. Ask anyone in the game and they will tell you it's difficult not to let that affect your performance.”

Taylor is prepared to adopt a wait-and-see policy on attracting fresh firepower, with Jack Defty set to partner in-form Matt Nolan today.

“We won't rush into anything,” he said. “I will see how we go in the next game or two. Matt has shown he can operate at this level. I think he's scored five in six and for me that could easily be in double figures. Matty (O'Halloran) can play down the centre and Jack will do a decent job for us. If you look at the goals Bloomers scored this season I bet Jack was involved in a good number.”

Lynn's boss did confirm a cheeky approach for Cambridge City's Paul Booth amid growing uncertainty surrounding a potential merger with Cambridge United.

“We had a sniff, but there's nothing doing,” said Taylor, who pulled out of a summer bidding war for the former Welling hitman. “You would be talking major money and I believe he's attracting interest from Conference clubs as well so there is no chance.”

Shaun Carey and Matt O'Halloran are in the reckoning for the vacant midfield berth with Luke Fell replacing Matt Peters in the squad.

Defender Grant Cooper is in line for a recall after he was sent home on the eve of last weekend's 1-1 draw at Bath.

“Shaun has not played for a fortnight so we'll have to monitor his fitness, but he could definitely do us a job,” said Taylor. “We need that experience and I want us to play with no fear. We've drawn a line under the incident with Coops and he will come back in.”

Taylor will also demand cool heads ahead of the high stakes clash after Sam McMahon's red card in a spicy 1-0 defeat last season.

Linnets midfielder Mark Angel has joined Southern League Division One East side Stamford on an initial one-month loan deal.
