Norwich City target Robbie Simpson has been told to sign a new contract at Cambridge United quickly - or find another club.

The Canaries have been monitoring the striker, who scored 15 goals in his last 16 games of the season, for some time, while a whole host of their Coca Cola Championship rivals, including Ipswich Town, Coventry City, Leicester City and Sheffield Wednesday, are believed to be interested in the former Canary youth player.

But now Simpson's manager Jimmy Quinn has told the 22-year-old to hurry up and make up his mind over his U's future before the ex-Northern Ireland international goes on holiday on June 7.

The club have offered Simpson a two-year deal that would make him their highest-paid player.

However, last season's top scorer, is studying at Loughborough University and is believed to want to hold out on a decision about his footballing future until his final exams in the middle of June.

If Simpson does not sign before Quinn's deadline, he looks set to spark a scramble for his services and City could be in line to re-sign the striker they rejected as a teenager.

Quinn, who has offered to deals to other out-of-contract players, says he wants to get his squad for next season sorted out as soon as possible.

“I won't be hanging about too long,” he told the Cambridge Evening News. “There are players out there who want to join us and I need to know sooner rather than later if people don't want to stay with us.

“I hope they'll want to stay, but I want players who want to play for the club. If they hold out for better deals elsewhere, good luck to them.

“The squad is slowly coming together and I hope by the time I go on holiday on June 7, I've got the majority of the squad in place.”

And Quinn highlighted Simpson as a man who's future he wants clarified.

“Robbie is still contemplating what to do, but I need to know as soon as possible,” he said. “Hopefully he'll decide to stay. If he doesn't we'll have to make sure we've got the right sort of player in to replace him.”
