After a perfect start to the new Ryman League campaign, records will be broken this afternoon as league leaders Lowestoft Town clash with the only other side who boast a 100pc record at this early stage - second-placed Ilford (3pm).

Roaring out of the traps, the Blues have taken to the new challenges ahead of them in their new surroundings in stunning fashion, as they sent out an early message to their new opponents with consecutive victories - 2-0 away at Thamesmead last Saturday and then

5-0 at home to Concord on Tuesday - over sides that are expected to challenge this season.

And while today's clash at Crown Meadow is already a top-of-the table encounter, Lowestoft's joint manager Micky Chapman was quick to stress his players will “keep their feet firmly on the ground” ahead of their next two games.

With their first midweek away match next Tuesday evening at Cheshunt - one of the three clubs yet to earn a point this season - the Blues are looking forward to the challenges ahead.

“We've had two great results with six points on the board in what has been a great start - but we'll continue to keep our feet on the ground as we're only two games into the new season and there's a long, long way to go.

“We can't be more pleased with the start we've made but our focus now is on Ilford, who've also had two good results, so we know it will be tough.

“We are still finding our feet at this level and we don't know a lot about them - but we are expecting a really tough game, although the boys are confident after the start we've made,” Chapman revealed.

Sending out a rallying call to the “fantastic fans,” Chapman add: “There were more than 60 who travelled to London on Saturday to follow us and made up a crowd of 89, while on Tuesday there was a great atmosphere at Crown Meadow as the fantastic fans were vocal and they came out in numbers to back us.”

Off the field, Lowestoft have also moved to sign up four of their talented youngsters to contracts this week.

All former Lowestoft youth players, Jon Lovelock, Chris Sandford, Jack Herbert and Louis Cutajar, have signed new deals to remain with the Crown Meadow outfit.
