City defender Michael Spillane will miss Saturday's League One trip to Hartlepool United through suspension.

The 20-year-old has been handed a one-match ban after being sent off in Monday night's 4-1 Carling Cup defeat by Sunderland, adjudged by referee Anthony Taylor to have denied Black Cats' striker Frazier Campbell a clear goalscoring opportunity.

The suspension comes into force straightaway, meaning he will miss the game at Victoria Park but will be eligible for City's Johnstone's Paint Trophy first round match against Brentford next Tuesday, September 1 (7.45pm).

Spillane has also been named in the Republic of Ireland Under-21 squad to play Estonia on September 9 in a European Championship qualifying fixture.
