Long Stratton Ladies 1, Freethorpe Ladies 0

Long Stratton Ladies continued their impressive form with a fifth win in six games.

This was a hard-fought victory though, having dispatched league leaders Thorpe Reserves 5-0 the previous week.

Freethorpe proved to be a tough nut to crack. The Reds never got going in the first half, despite having much the better of posession they struggled to carve out a clear-cut chance and the visitors nearly opened the scoring but for Stratton keeper Gill Wood blocking off the line.

The second half was again an even affair, Wood again making an excellent stop in an one-on-one situation.

Stratton’s run of form has been built on an impressive defence, centre-back Jenny Head was in supreme form again here.

With just 11 minutes left Stratton broke the deadlock, a brilliant long-range strike from the hard-working Emily Watts.

Stratton saw out the game for a very valuable three points which puts them on level points with the league leaders.
