Man City boss Sven-Goran Eriksson last night warned Norwich chief Glenn Roeder to forget any summer transfer move for young hot shot Ched Evans.

The former England manager moved swiftly to ward off fresh interest after Evans' latest match winning strike for Wales U21s in their midweek Uefa U21 qualifying victory against Bosnia in Sarajevo.

The teenager has struck six goals in 16 Norwich starts since scoring within two minutes of his full Championship debut in the 2-1 home win over Plymouth.

Evans has struggled to maintain his instant goal scoring impact at Carrow Road in recent weeks after Roeder extended the youngster's initial loan stint.

But Eriksson insisted his Welsh prodigy is going nowhere despite the New Year arrivals of Portsmouth hitman Benjani and £5.2m Ecudorian 19-year-old striker Felipe Caicedo.

“We do not have any plans to sell him,” said the Swede. “A little bit depends on him and he's doing well at the moment for Norwich and his country. If I had to make a plan today, it's to take him back for pre-season, look at him and decide from there. That will be his big chance.”

Roeder drew a blank on emergency loan deadline day with long time Newcastle target Shola Ameobi joining Stoke on loan until the end of the season.

City's East Anglian rivals Ipswich were also linked with a late move for the out-of-favour Magpies' striker but Ameobi agreed to join Stoke's promotion push.

Potters' boss Tony Pulis was delighted to capture the big frontman after Stoke reportedly agreed a six figure loan fee with the St James' Park outfit.

“We need to show everybody that we are going to give it our best shot,” said Pulis. “The most important thing is that we have a go, because last time I was here I don't think we were in a position to do that. If we fail by not having a go then I can understand the fans' frustration, and that was my big thing last time I was here.

“We were treading water really and there was never ever any ambition to drive this football club on. The most important thing now, is that we have a chairman who recognises that to get this football club and push it on, he needs to take a bit of a risk now and then, and that is what he is doing.”

Roeder recently ruled out a loan switch but City's boss admitted Ameobi is on his summer transfer radar.

“I like him a lot,” he said. “He would be an unbelievable scorer in the Championship. I think he's a fantastic player - certainly rated much more highly by me than lots of other people who tend to be like headless chickens running round the place who don't score. He scores goals.”

Roeder gave Blackburn's Dutch hitman Maceo Rigters a Championship debut against Colchester after his loan arrival last week. The striker will again be involved for the weekend trip to Bristol City despite an ankle injury scare for Rovers' Paraguayan international Roque Santa Cruz.

The ex-Bayern Munich forward limped out of his country's midweek friendly defeat against South Africa but Rovers are unable to recall Rigters during the first month of his emergency Carrow Road loan switch.
