Wycombe boss Peter Taylor admitted he was in the hunt for City's first summer signing, highly-rated midfielder Matt Gill. Taylor had been courting the 28-year-old out-of-contract Exeter midfielder but, after holding talks with both clubs, Gill chose the Canaries instead.

"He would have been a very good signing for us," said Taylor. "If Norwich hadn't come in for him I think he would have been a Wycombe player.
