Exeter captain Matt Taylor has distanced himself from rumours he is set to quit the club after being linked with Norwich City and Swindon.

The 28-year-old centre-back won the supporters' player of the year award and has been linked with the League One champions, as well as play-off finalists Swindon. However, Taylor is ignoring the speculation to focus on being fit for when pre-season starts.

"A few of the lads have had a good season so there is going to be speculation,” said Taylor. “But until someone puts in a bid or speaks to the club I am not really in a position to comment. It would be wrong for me to say anything.

"These are only rumours at the moment and rumours start very easily in football. I am not going to take any notice until someone tells me otherwise. I have got a year left on my contract at Exeter so until Exeter get in touch it is not an issue for me.

“If I am at Exeter at the start of the season then I will be delighted."

The Canaries are on the lookout of a new centre-back after deciding against renewing Gary Doherty's contract at Carrow Road. Boss Paul Lambert was unsuccessful in his pursuit of Taylor's Exeter team-mate Danny Seaborne earlier in the season, who eventually moved to Southampton.
