Tring Athletic 1, King's Lynn 5: Lynn boss Tommy Taylor insists his side fear no one in today's FA Cup second qualifying round draw after crushing the Spartan South Midlands Premier minnows.

The Linnets chief is unfazed at the prospect of a potential tie against Nationwide North or South outfits after a Cow Lane stroll.

Alex Notman's first senior goal for the club, Matt O'Halloran's brace, Michael Frew and sharp shooter Jack Defty put Lynn in total control long before the hour mark.

Ben Williams notched a deserved consolation for the gutsy hosts in stoppage time after Lynn regressed into exhibition mode.

“I'm not worried who we play,” said Taylor. “It would be lovely to have a home tie but I know more teams will be frightened about King's Lynn than we will about them. We had our backsides kicked in the competition last year. With a little bit of luck hopefully it could go for us this time around.

“The attitude of the lads was spot on. When you go two and three up there's no real danger of losing, but you still have to see out the game. The pitch was not great for football even though we strung some decent stuff together - those are the sort of things you must cope with in the FA Cup and we did.

“Tring had a bit of pace up top and Shaun (Marshall) needed to make an early save or two although I felt we played the right kind of football. The boys were shooting from all over the place rather than trying to walk the ball in. I was pleased with that because it was something we worked on.”

Taylor singled out teenage debutant Sam Gaughran for special praise after the youngster replaced skipper Mark Warren just past the hour mark.

“Sam is a big plus for us,” admitted Taylor. “I'd honestly have no problem starting him in a league game. It was a good time to go on - there was no pressure and he could just enjoy himself. Mark was struggling with a groin problem all week. We'd talked about it before kick off and agreed to fetch him off if we were in control.

“Sam's still growing, but the physical side isn't a problem for him. He looked very, very comfortable on the ball, doesn't mind a tackle and showed some decent pace.

“He's a good, good prospect and he gives us midfield options as well. I know Forest had a look at him before - it wouldn't surprise me if a pro club did come back in down the line. He was excellent.”

Taylor held Mark Camm (groin) in reserve and plumped for a spot of striker rotation ahead of this week's Southern League, Premier Division test at Bath.

“That was definitely in my mind,” he said. “Cammy was 50:50 but I'd rather he had a break than lose the lad for four or five matches. Matty Nolan will start at Bath. I wanted to give him and Jack (Defty) 45 minutes each with Michael Frew leading the line on his own.”

Charlie Defty claimed Camm's midfield anchor role with Notman and O'Halloran supplying the ammunition to Frew at Nolan's expense.

Tring stopper Gary White denied Jack Defty within seconds of the kick off but Marshall's quick reflexes foiled Danny Gray after the bustling frontman out paced Grant Cooper.

Frew nudged the visitors ahead on 16 minutes - pouncing on Sam McMahon's scuffed strike to hammer home from close range.

Marshall smothered Williams' snapshot to preserve Lynn's slender advantage before Taylor's men moved through the gears.

Defty's cool lob outwitted White midway through the half then Notman punished the overworked keeper's fumble from Adam Smith's teasing set piece.

O'Halloran expertly controlled Dean West's hanging cross to curl a sublime fourth in the closing stages of a first half command performance from Taylor's men.

Nolan marked his arrival with a slaloming run and precise cut back despatched by O'Halloran stationed just inside the Tring box on the restart.

Taylor rang the changes, but it was late home substitute Matt Wort with an immediate impact - cutting inside Smith to test Marshall whose parry was bundled home by the alert Williams.
