Tom Trybull is desperate to lay down roots at Norwich City.

The 24-year-old made an impressive Championship debut in the 1-0 win at Birmingham City, for the sixth club of his young career.

Trybull signed a one year deal at Carrow Road, after leaving ADO Den Haag in Holland, as he looks to finally deliver on the early promise of his breakthrough in his teens at Werder Bremen.

The midfielder, who represented Germany at every age group level up to Under-20, admits he has taken some wrong turns in a career which has now brought him to Norfolk.

“When you are highly rated at such a young age people expect a lot of you. When you stop going so high people might look and think you are arrogant or not concentrated enough on the pitch,” he said. “It is not always just the player who is responsible for this. I was injured a lot of times and it was not so easy these last few years. I had a good time at Bremen, but I was young and I made some bad decisions. When you are young you don’t have the experience how life works.

“You give your career to agents and you don’t know how football works. It is like a business. I met my wife after a few years and she helped me a lot to make some important decisions. Now you think twice about things and whether it can be good or not. Maybe I could have stayed there but if you don’t feel comfortable at a club or don’t play you have to change.

“That was a little bit the problem over the recent years. I am happy for now that I get the chance to come here. The last few years have not been so easy for myself. I want to be part of a successful team. I have to say without these experiences I would not be the same person I am now. At the end it was hard but I am happy for these experiences.”

Trybull tapped up his former team mate Marcel Franke to get the lowdown on the Canaries after the defender made the same move.

“I talked to Marcel before I came here and he told me a lot of good things. His first impressions were also very good and he liked to be here,” he said. “You can ask players but you need your own impression of whether it can work for yourself. It was easy for me to come here.

“When I was 18, 19, 20 I was making a good start to my career and in Holland last season I was enjoying my football again but then the coach changed. Then I didn’t play because I would not extend my contract. Like I say, a lot of other things can be part of what happens. This last year was good for me and my family and we are happy to stay here in Norwich for a long time.

“We have an agreement for one year and that is totally okay. If I play a good season and many games we will see what happens after. But I feel comfortable here and I am making my first steps in the team and the club.”
