Sam Byram is pleased with his status as a bargain buy for Norwich City and determined to keep showing he’s ready to battle for Premier League survival.

The £750,000 summer signing from West Ham is proving to be something of a fan favourite, managing to keep Jamal Lewis out of Daniel Farke's team at left-back thanks to a succession of committed defensive displays.

That comes after injury ruined his time with the Hammers, with a serious knee injury seeing him spend most of last season on the sidelines while on loan in the Championship at Nottingham Forest.

"For me, off the back of the last two seasons, just to be playing, I'm grateful and I'll leave everything out on the pitch to try and keep my place," said Byram.

"I'll do everything to try and help the team - so I am enjoying myself."

That's despite the 26-year-old being naturally a right-sided player, with a determined header in the 90th minute of Saturday's crucial 1-0 home win over survival rivals Bournemouth earning a huge cheer from the Carrow Road faithful, as it allowed Todd Cantwell to win a corner and relieve some pressure.

"I think I'd messed up 10 seconds before so I knew I had to win that header!" Byram added with a smile. "Right from the front to the back, we were working for each other, we pressed well and there's never been a doubt about our work ethic or team spirit.

"I just think that there were games previously where we should have picked up more and thankfully we got the points."

The Canaries went into the game knowing that defeat would have dealt their survival hopes a major blow - but head to Tottenham tonight (7.30pm) buoyed by cutting the gap to safety to six points.

"We're going to have pressure for the rest of the season," Byram continued. "With them only being one place above us there might have been a bit more pressure but that's something that as players we've got to deal with.

"I know it's a bit of a cliché but it's just concentrating on the next game and keep trying to pick points up."
