Paul Trollope says his Bristol Rovers were too generous to the Canaries.

"It was a frustrating afternoon," said the Rovers manager. "I thought we started the game very well.

"I thought we were in control, we used the full width of the pitch, passed it well, and I think it was our own deficiencies and sloppiness with the ball that gave them lifts to attack us."

Trollope felt that poor defensive work cost Rovers dearly.

"In the end a mistake passing across the back led to the first goal, and then we got a little bit lopsided for the second one," he said.

"It wasn't a pleasing thing to go in two down. We felt, after starting well, that it would be a different story.

"We asked the players at half-time to clear their minds. We had a decent spell in the first half, and we wanted to get back to that.

"It was important to keep our confidence, keep the spirit and the commitment and try and push them back and put them under pressure.

"For quite a few spells of the second half we managed that, but again, a frustrating sloppy goal, when we should have just cleared our lines. But heads didn't drop, we kept going, and that is a steep learning curve for some of the younger players out on the pitch.

"We were 3-0 down at home, which is not an easy situation to play in, but I thought their attitude and some of the quality they produced was good, and that will stand us in good stead for the future.

"We really wanted to finish the season at home on a high, and send everyone home happy, but we have to dust ourselves down as we have a big game next week.

"It was always going to be a tough challenge for us, and you cannot gift teams like that goals. If we are going to pass the ball, which is my philosophy, and we are going to make the pitch big, we have to be sure with passes."
