Harry Maguire’s hip injury is not as bad as first feared and the England defender could still be fit to face Norwich City on Saturday, Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has revealed.

The Telegraph reported earlier in the week that the centre-back, signed last summer from Leicester for a huge £80million to make him the world's most expensive defender, was facing a "sustained spell on the sidelines" with a torn hip muscle.

However, Solskjaer has dismissed that claim ahead of City's Premier League trip to Old Trafford.

He's got a chance for tomorrow," the United boss told Sky Sports. "It was a minor thing, I don't know where the reports are coming from - you might have got confused with Harry Kane. He's going to go through training today and see how he is for tomorrow.

"It's not a surprise. He is a warrior and he wants to play and if there's a minor problem he will put himself up to play.

"That's what we did against Wolves. At half-time he was feeling some discomfort but he was adamant he was going to be fine. He was close to playing against City, just not fit enough."

The Red Devils are looking to get back on track after a 2-0 league loss at Arsenal, a 0-0 draw at Wolves in the FA Cup third round on Saturday and a 3-1 home defeat to Manchester City in the first leg of their League Cup semi-final on Tuesday.

They will be without midfielders Paul Pogba and Scott McTominay due to long-term injuries and England attacker Jesse Lingard is also set to miss the game through injury.

Centre-back Eric Bailly and youngster Tim Fosu-Mensah will also not be involved as they step up their injury comebacks with the under-23s this evening.

Much focus is on the experienced Ashley Young as well, after midweek reports that he was set to sign a pre-contract agreement with Inter Milan ahead of his United deal expiring in the summer.

Solskjaer said of that situation: "He's one of our players, he is our captain. There's lots of speculation, we have to handle that. We are getting used to that in this club.

"Ashley has been very professional and focused, so I don't think that is going to change."

Asked again about the 34-year-old's future, he added: "That's a discussion me and Ashley will have if something comes up. For us, we haven't got too many players fit and ready so we need the ones we have.

"Ashley has been very good for this club. He's been a very good captain this season. Lets see where we are in June and we can see where we are in February as well."
