Norwich City have an unwanted Premier League record to avoid during their final four away games of this season.

The fewest goals scored away from home since the top flight's 1992 reform as the Premier League is eight, by four different teams - and the Canaries are currently only on a paltry six.

Middlesbrough (1996), Southampton (1999), Sheffield United (2007) and the worst ever Premier League team, Derby's miserable 2007-08 team which finished with 11 points overall, all managed just eight goals during their 19 away games.

Thankfully, Daniel Farke's squad are nowhere near that calamitous Derby team's overall record as they already have 21 points with nine games remaining, leaving them six points from safety and with a slim chance of survival.

Part of that disappointing campaign has been due to struggles outside of Norfolk though, taking just six points from 15 games on the road, winning 2-0 at Everton and drawing 1-1 at Leicester and 0-0 at both Bournemouth and Newcastle.

That's due to just six goals scored, five fewer than anyone else this season, and with trips to Arsenal, Watford, Chelsea and Manchester City remaining the Canaries are in real danger of setting a new record for the fewest away goals in a season.

Strangely however, defensively they are nowhere near the Premier League's worst away record, conceding 26 goals - with four teams having conceded more so far this season.

That unwanted record is shared by Wigan, who conceded 55 away from home during 2009-10, and Ipswich, who conceded 59 during 1994-95 before the league was reduced to 20 teams - both working out to around 2.8 per game.

City are also already clear of the lowest ever away points total, with that terrible Derby team still holding that record having managed just three away points during 2007-08.

This Canaries vintage has managed one win, which is at least more than Nigel Worthington's team of 2004-05 managed, who picked up just seven points on their travels during that relegation season.

It has been a drastic change in fortunes from the 2018-19 Championship title winning campaign though, when Farke's team had the best away record in the division, winning 12, drawing nine and losing just twice, scoring 42 goals.

The FA Cup has at least provided some respite for regular away fans this season though, with a 4-2 win at Preston in the third round, a 2-1 win at Burnley in the fourth and a 1-1 draw in front of 9,000 travelling fans at Tottenham in the first, which was won 3-2 in a penalty shoot-out.

There is one other unwanted record City have looming as well, as the club to be relegated from the Premier League the most times, as they are currently tied with West Brom, Sunderland, Middlesbrough and Crystal Palace on four relegations.

With Palace all but safe, 12 points clear of the bottom three, and the other three clubs in lower divisions, an unwanted piece of history will be the Canaries' if they cannot engineer a great escape.
