Wisbech Town are in the hat for the first round proper of the FA Vase after a 5-0 win at lower level Bourne Town.

With regular ‘keeper Sam Vince unavailable, manager Gary Setchell secured the services of 47-year-old Paul Bastock from Corby Town – managed by former King’s Lynn Town player David Bell – as cover. This was Bastock’s 1,240th career match – but his first ever in the FA Vase.

It took just three minutes for Wisbech to open the scoring through Alex Beck and he added another just before the half-hour mark, rifling home the rebound after Jordan Yong’s rasping drive was only parried by home keeper Alex Brown.

Two minutes later, Kieran Hamilton scored a brilliant individual goal, cutting in from the right wing. The home side finally tested Bastock just after the break, but the stopper pulled off a good diving save. Beck completed his hat-trick in the 66th minute with a low shot into the corner after sub Josh Ford put him in and scored his fourth three minutes later.
