Lowestoft Town 3, Kirkley 1

Lowestoft lost centre half Marcus Saunders in the pre-match warm up to be replaced by Darren Cockrill but within 20 minutes they had effectively killed off the local derby in front of a bumper 876 bank holiday crowd taking a match winning 3-0 lead, writes Stuart Baker.

After six minutes following some thrilling interplay Jamie Godbold was brought down by Kirkley full back Richard Durrant and Lowestoft made it 1-0 via a twice-taken penalty by Richard Woodrow.

More instinctive passing saw Russell Stock release Jamie Stokeld whose low cross was tapped in by Gary McGee on 13 minutes and on the 20th minute mark a super strike by Jamie Godbold as Lowestoft were in fine passing form. Kirkley were never in the half at all and after the break redeemed themselves with some good moves especially involving substitute Nathan Stone but it took a flying free kick by substitute Robbie Lawrence on 82 minutes to bring some respectability to the scoreline as Lowestoft ran out worthy winners.
