King's Lynn boss Keith Webb yesterday counted his walking wounded after a bruising weekend Blue Square North encounter against Droylsden.

Striker Jack Defty needed hospital treatment following a mid air clash of heads with team mate Simon Weaver in the second half of Lynn's battling 2-2 draw.

Defty left the field with a deep cut to the top of his head in an accidental collision with the luckless Weaver.

Lynn's bandaged full back was also withdrawn having only been passed fit to face the Bloods after suffering a cut above his right eye against Redditch four days earlier.

Webb confirmed both needed stitches and the duo will be monitored in training to assess their fitness ahead of Saturday's league trip to Alfreton.

“It was two nasty gashes, said Webb. “Simon has opened up another cut in addition to the one he got against Redditch so he is going to have more scars than Frankenstein at this rate. Now he's got one on top of his head where he has headed the back of Jack. Both needed stitches and Jack went to hospital because that was a very nasty one. It was bleeding all over the place at the top of his head and you could see the amount of blood on his shirt. We just couldn't allow him to go back out with that sort of injury.”

Webb conceded the bizarre double injury blow had a major bearing on his side's third consecutive league draw.

Defty's close range tap in put Lynn ahead before Danny Bloomfield's stoppage time strike rescued a point after two late defensive gaffes from the hosts.

“Losing Jack and Simon was a bit of blow to us,” said Webb. “It's tough because when you are faced with a situation where you suddenly have two players down you have to make a decision to change things around. We did that, rightly or wrongly, but I still felt they weren't really looking like they could break us down. Unfortunately you can't do anything about mistakes.”

Webb is demanding his men carry on where they left off at Alfreton. Reds' boss Nicky Law was an interested spectator at The Walks prior to his team's 3-0 defeat at newly promoted Gateshead on Sunday.

“Lee (Glover) said to them in the last three minutes of the game they were putting themselves in the way of the ball,” said Webb. “We were throwing ourselves into tackles and pushing them back. They have to take that on board and realise what we need to do when we come up against teams who do the same to us. We have to match them and start in that way.

“I decided to change it at half time and bring Joe (Francis) off because I didn't think he was having a particularly good game. We'd had three matches in a week and he looked a little tired. We needed to get closer to them and change our shape. David Bridgwater has a great opportunity just after the break and if that goes in it's a different game.”

Webb is poised to hand supersub Bloomfield and some of his fringe players a reserve run out in tomorrow's Ridgeons Premier trip to CRC.
