King's Lynn boss Keith Webb insisted yesterday it never crossed his mind to leave over the Northern Premier League rumpus.

Lynn will stay in the Southern Premier for the 2007/08 season after the FA confirmed Scarborough must remain in the Unibond Premier following Tuesday's High Court adjournment for the crisis club.

Webb's meticulous summer planning looked in tatters last week after Lynn's shock nomination for a Northern Premier transfer to replace Scarborough, but the Linnets' chief is adamant he would have remained at the helm.

“I was absolutely gobsmacked when I was first told,” he said. “But I never thought about leaving - we'd have just got on with. Stamford have found it difficult after being switched and they've had much more time to prepare. Undoubtedly we'd have lost players. I'd be surprised if Joe Francis would've been keen to come. Aside from that we've recruited the likes of John Turner on the premise of Southern League football. It would've been very hard to then turn around and tell them we are going into a totally different set up.

“For me, the whole thing shows how much the Southern League wanted to get King's Lynn out at the first opportunity. Personally I think that would've been a big loss for the league.”

Webb confirmed assistant boss Lee Glover will remain at The Walks after Lynn escaped a Unibond switch. The Linnets' boss is also determined to hold onto last season's top scorer Matt Nolan after recent speculation re-surfaced linking the talented striker with local club Bedford.

“Had we gone into the Northern League that might have made up his mind,” said Webb. “Matt wanted to know if he's part of my plans and I've told him I want him in my squad. You never hope to lose players, especially your top goalscorer, but it's his prerogative.“It's the same with the likes of Michael Frew. You have to put an arm around these lads at this level, make them feel wanted, but my priority is to build a squad with competition for places.

“Lee was honest and I respect that. He's had bad experiences with Grantham in the Unibond but he is happy and working hard behind the scenes.”

Webb is poised to finalise his planning after the holiday season.

“Things will go on hold a little bit for the next week or two with people away,” he said. “We are still looking to bolster the squad. I've got cover in the areas we're looking to strengthen, but it would be nice to round off the group. We want to send out a statement of intent because this club is serious about going for the title.”
